This is piece by Christina Entcheva. She works mainly with ink on paper. I would describe her work as intricate and abstract. Something really strikes me about the way she uses the human form (and sometimes animals) and uses such an array of lines and design to morph them. I’ve always liked very detailed pieces and abstract pieces, and she puts both of those together. This kind of inspires me to be a little brave and try a piece that is outside of my comfort zone.

Aaron Smith

The aritist I chose was Arron Smith. He is a painter. He likes to do multicolored paintings. I would describe his artwork as focused on shapes and shades. I like that the the paint is thick on the canvas. This inspires me to maybe not make my artwork so flat and clean. Also I like the bright unusal colors he puts into his pieces.

MAO YANYANG

MAO YANYANG is an oil painter. he's preety goot at eet. i would say that his artwork is best described as being contemporary. he uses realistic art and as a reoccuring theme, puts in microphones in all his art. i like how my homeboy MAO, has actual skill but also brings about humour in his art. he will influence my art by maybe inspiring me to put a humourous side to it.

LOL

Unity and Variety

For this week, I was working on unity and varity. I used the shells and took a bunch of pics and I thought this one was interesting because the shells looked stacked and there is different colors and shapes of shells.
For this picture I had purple and yellow colored squares and lined up paint brushes in different ways. I like this one because the perspective is interesting and where it focused in at.

I had an idea for pattern to use the skull's teeth. This was my favorite picture out of them all.

Jesse Reno!

Jesse Reno works mostly with oil pastels, acrylics, and some sort of pencil; his site does not say what kind. I would describe his artwork as amazing! He finds many ways to interpret many different ideas into one piece and that’s sort of what I try to do with my pieces. He gives out a message with his pieces and when I start a piece I usually think what could this piece say. I like that his pieces are original, they’re very unique. I also like that he interprets his heritage with modern day ideas but makes it his own visual representation of what it looks like. His pieces make me think of him as a modern day caveman, I think it’s because of his style and because words were interpreted through pictures back in the day. This might influence my work by giving me a goal to aim for. He’s pretty much found his style it’s very clear through all his pieces that it has the “Jesse Reno” touch and that’s something I have to work for. As well as that I have to work with mixing Medias, which is something I suck at. But practice makes perfect! His work inspires me to encourage random thoughts into my drawings, if that made any sense at all. Above is a picture of him and one of his art pieces that i found on his site jessereno.com As you can see it has a wide variety of values and colors, amazing huh?

Breaking News: Evergreen AP Art's Choir Has Beiber Fever!

This is an acrylic painting on canvas paper that I did over the summer. I kind of had this weird kick with paper cranes, which proved ironic considering the first assignment in AP art turned out to pertain to oragami. Yes, I painted that whole background myself. Yes, it took a long time.

I also had this strange obsession with this acrylic cerulean paint I bought in June. I painted a ton of things in monochromatic, but for this I thought that a drippy red scarf would contrast the blue considerably. In all actuality, I just got lazy and had fun with it. I don't regret it. It's not my strongest summer work, and it needs a new slide.

Here's another example of my obsession with the cerulean paint. It was actually layered about a thousand times on bristol paper. It's the first painting I did over the summer. Also needs a new slide.

Judith Brauns

Judith Braun

Judith Brauns makes her artwork by dipping her fingers in charcoal, sometimes both hands simultaneously. She says "In this way they are gestural inscriptions of my body, developing a vocabulary of mark making with these simple means." There are no obvious objects in her artwork, just a flow of body language that she puts down on paper. What i like about this artist is that she is original and is not using a method that somebody else came up with. She branches out and designs her own unique style. Judith Brauns inspires me to be more original and to make more pieces of art work that I came up with, not somebody elses ideas. By looking at her artwork it shows that the art work that you come up with and that you can relate to can potentialy be youre best artwork you've ever made, or anybodys seen. The artwork that comes from you, and your experiences shows your life and your feelings not somebody elses.

Langdon Graves

For the November blog post, I am doing a short entry on a contemporary artist. The artist I chose is Langdon Graves. I admire her art work because it is very well done and has imagination put into it. Langdon works with mostly graphite and has a very vintage feel to her artwork. The thing I admire most about her work is that it is in graphite and still looks finished. I fell that this artist will have influence on my work because I like to do art in graphite, and maybe I could take away knowledge of what a finished piece in graphite would look like.

David Hovey

This is a piece by David Hovey. He is by far my favorite contemporary artist. he works primarly with oil paint now although in his senior year in high school and first year of college he didnt want to paint, he only wanted to draw. Now he works primarily with oil paint since "thats what the masters use."

David's work is usually very realistic in how the things would look even if it is in a fantasy situation, something I greatly admire of his work.

I like how he uses perspective and lighting to give his paintings something unique and interesting. I also envy his mind, how he can come up with these ideas and actually make it feel like thats how it happened.

David influences my work greatly. I know him personally since he was the oldest brother of one of my friends back in Ohio. His whole family is very artistic but each in a unique medium (ie his dad makes sculptures out of silverware). He is somewhat my unofficial mentor. I ask his advice on pieces and try to pick his brain for ideas and new things to try. Hes helped me develop my technique with things like underpaintings and how to use colors that you might not think of in places to make it look more realistic. I do try to come as close to his level as I possibly can because I feel that he is the greatest artist I know of.

Cherry Project!

This model is wearing an outfit from Mexican designer Jonathan Morales. He is the designer for Cherry Project, a Mexican label. His media would have to be textures and colors that are bright and sometimes dark. Denisse Guerrero, a singer wears his clothing for music videos and shows, and shes also a designer which i also admire, but I admire his work because it's different than most designers. The dress is simple but bold and recognizable with a lot of work put into it. I like how he uses textures and shapes that arent seen in everyday clothing. Also the way he combines colors. He influences my work by showing that it's ok to use bright colors, different textures, shapes , and imagination to create something wearable. Also for a guy to create these outfits is very inspiring because clothing design is mostly looked as a womans job. It's very colorfull, which makes his work stand out.

Samwise Didier

This artist doesn't really work in one specific medium, he is an artist who digitally paints and works as a concept artist for Blizzard. One character he worked on was Zeratul in the Starcraft universe. The person who came up with the idea behind Zeratul was actually Chris Metzen, but the character was designed by Sam. He also worked on making a joke race for a different game designed by Blizzard which consisted of samurai warrior pandas. I like his artwork because he is able to get the idea in his head across visually in a way that is pleasing to the eye, even if you are looking at karate pandas. This artist influences my work to try and put more effort in understanding how to design characters and environments so that I can draw the ideas in my head without a reference or anything.

It should be saturday right now

These are three photos this is my found art shoot with glass bottles and mirrors.

These two are of my two little sisters when we went to seaside I really like the top one and i still feel a bit iffy on the bottom one.

Self-Portrait

This is the self-portrait of me. For this piece, I use watercolor and black permanent marker. So far, this is one of my best pieces.

Blog Assignment, 11/12

GOOD MORNING!

This month, you may choose to do ONE or BOTH of the following:
  1. Post 3 edited slides with short commentary on each piece. Please do ONE POST ONLY, (i.e., do not post three pieces in three separate posts). Be sure to label with "name, slides." Comments are optional. (4 points)
  2. Pick a contemporary artist that you admire, and post a picture of his or her work, along with answers to the following questions: 1. What medium or media does this artist work with? 2. How would you describe his or her artwork? 3. What is it that you like about this artist? 4. How might this artist influence your work? This should be like a short reflective essay, about a half a page to a page in length. Answers should be thorough and self-reflective. Don't have a favorite artist? Try my shared items for ideas. Please label with your name only.
If you do both, you might receive some extra credit!
